Track & Field: Pole Vaulters Lead Titans at First Indoor Meet

ALLIANCE, Ohio - The Westminster College men's and women's track and field teams competed in their first indoor meets of the season at the Jim Wuske Invitational hosted by Mount Union College on Saturday.

Westminster sent split squads to the unscored meet.

The Top 8 individual place-winners for Westminster both came in the pole vault event. Sophomore Merrissa Malcolm (Freeport, Pa./Freeport) placed second with a pole vault of 3.35 meters for the Titan women, and sophomore Caleb Smathers (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney) took fifth with a pole vault of 4.05 for the Titan men.

The Westminster women placed third in the 4x200 meter relay with a time of 1:53.09. The team consisted of sophomores Mallory Mack (Carnegie, Pa./Chartiers Valley) and Alisha Slater (Wooster, Ohio/Norwayne), senior Alicia Crum (Norwalk, Ohio/St. Paul's) and freshman Cecilia Klein (Graysville, Pa./West Greene).

Top individual performances by Westminster sprinters and hurdlers included Mack placing 16th in the 55 dash (7.84) for the women and sophomore Forrest Minteer (New Wilmington, Pa./Wilmington) running 14th in the 55 dash (6.88) for the men. Westminster's highest placing hurdler was sophomore Robert Rhodes (New Paris, Pa./Chestnut Ridge) taking 13th in the 55 hurdles (8.41) for the Titan men.
