New Castle-based Army Reserve unit heads to Haiti

NEW CASLTE, Pa- The 326th Quartermaster Company based in Lawrence County departed to Haiti on Sunday to help with earthquake relief efforts. The unit will first stop at Fort Dix in New Jersey before flying to Haiti.
Some 80 reservists received a short send-off ceremony from family members and friends Sunday morning at the 326th's center in New Castle.
The unit will participate in Operation Unified Response.
Members of the 326th will provide water purification support in the Haitian capitol which was damaged by a massive earthquake recently.
According to the Army, even before the earthquake hit, the Haitian water system was in disarray.
Soldiers will use equipment like Tactical Water Purification Systems and Reverse Osmosis Purification Systems to clean and then deliver the water.
