NEW WILMINGTON, Lawrence County-- New Wilmington Police along with Pennsylvania state troopers say they have linked a series of burglaries from Volant to New Wilmington to a Friday morning fatal traffic accident in Wilmington Township. Meanwhile, state police have identified the victim killed in the crash.
According to troopers, 67-year old Ronald E. Holt of Pulaski died when his northbound Buick sedan collided head-on with a southbound red pickup loaded with stolen items from five separate crime scenes. The accident happened around 7:15 a.m. on Route 18 near the Apple Castle just north of the State Route 158 intersection. Troopers say 21-year old Hanna Miljevich and her passenger, 19-year old Vern Sipe Jr, were flown to a Youngstown hospital where they are recovering from their injuries. Both are listed as being from New Castle.
A rocking chair, quilts and computers were among the items found at the crash scene and in the wreckage of the truck. In New Wilmington state police teamed up with borough officers at the Amish Peddler store where someone broke in and made off with many of the items found at the crash. State police took fingerprints at the New Wilmington business as well as businesses burglarized in nearby Volant. New Wilmington Police Chief Carmen Piccirllo says there is a link between the accident and the burglaries.
