New Wilmington's Huntington Bank robbed

New Wilmington police joined with state troopers and the FBI in the search for a bank robber they say escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash.  Police say the getaway car may have been a vehicle pulled over at a traffic stop the same time of the holdup.  Watch WCN's interview with New Wilmington's police chief.

Women's Hoops: Cantella's Jumper at Buzzer Stings Yellow Jackets 68-66

The Westminster College women's basketball team came out of the gates shooting 53.8% from the floor and 67% from beyond the arc in the first half. Junior Jenn Cantella (Freedom, PA / Freedom) finished off the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets as time expired in regulation with a jumper to win it 68-66. The Titans improved to 5-12 overall, with all of their wins coming in conference play (5-6 PAC). The Yellow Jackets fell to 13-5 overall and 8-3 in the President's Athletic Conference (PAC).

Men's Hoops: First Half Offensive Surge Guides Titans Past Yellow Jackets 72-55

The Westminster College men's basketball team orchestrated three 10-0 runs in the first half that led to an eventual 72-55 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) win over Waynesburg. The Titans improved to 4-14 overall and 3-7 in the PAC, while the Yellow Jackets dropped to 4-15 overall and 1-9 in the conference.

Some professors add texting rules to syllabi

Texting in class affects more than just a student's attention

With the new age of technology comes an age old obstacle which faculty at every academic level deals with from students:  getting their students to pay attention while they are teaching.  At Westminster College, the challenge is always present.  It forces professors to either stick to the rules against texting that they stated in the syllabus which they passed out at the beginning of the semester or allow for a little leniency.

A popular local acoustic rock band is rocking in 2012 with a new music video produced by Westminster students Andrea Tice and Joe Ligo.  The song "Easy" from the SHIFTING album by J.D. Eicher and the Goodnights is now a music video.  The project evolved as a collaboration between alumni and current students.  Get the story behind the video here and watch it as well.  Take a behind-the-scenes look with a bonus video created by one of the producers.

New Castle demotes police chief and seeks replacement

The New Castle city council has voted not to reappoint sitting police chief Tom Sansone to his position.  During a Tuesday night meeting, council voted down the mayor's reappointment of Sansone.  However, council voted to reappointment the fire chief and other department heads.

Many people have a preconceived notion of what fraternities and sororities are like before coming to college.  Many associate them with crazy parties, and popular culture encourages this view.  Movies like National Lampoon's Animal House and Old School promote the idea of college, and specifically Greek life, being a four year party.  I interviewed five Westminster students, both members and nonmembers of Greek organizations to see why they chose the path they did, and what their view of Greek life was.

Westminster College's Departments of Modern Languages and English will host The Tournées Film Festival, a series of French films shown on consecutive Tuesdays, Jan. 31-Feb. 28, at 7 p.m. in the Sebastian Mueller Theater of the McKelvey Campus Center.  The events are free and open to the public.
